When people pass away, it's obviously devastating.
When people pass away from neglect while IN the hospital, it's downright criminal.
Well, at least that's how I'm feeling about the loss of an extended family member. He went into the hospital with excruciating groin, side, and back pain (level 10 out of 10). All the hospital did, ALL they did was one back xray and they "determined" that it must have been his arthritis flaring up. They stuffed him chalk full of pain killers and then did NOTHING. He laid in pain, suffering, terrified and dealing with an RN who was treating him like he wasn't even sick, for 3 days and 3 nights. Finally, his body gave out and somehow, he died. Autopsy to follow.
They didn't do a urinalysis, bloodwork, or any other type of scans other than one back xray in all of that time. AND it's apparent that they didn't try to revive him when they found him on the floor in his hospital room.
I'm sorry but... What. The. Fuck.
I will NEVER go to that hospital and I think the doctors and nurses who "looked after" his case ought to be under investigation.
But that's just me, and I'm not in a position to either do anything about it, or voice my opinion to anyone of authority. So, I just sit with the family, and grieve and offer support and deal with the consequences of losing a loved one and hope that the people it impacts can deal and recover.
It's a damn shame.
